It Just Takes One Idea

As regular followers of the band will know, for the last eighteen months we have been working with Shri Sriram  as part of his project entitled Just a Vibration. This has opened up a number of opportunities for the band from playing at the London Jazz Festival to being featured on BBC 6 Music several times by Cerys Matthews. At the moment we can be heard with Shri, Jasdeep, Marc and Ben as part of the in-flight entertainment on all British Airways flights throughout the summer. In the middle of the project came one of the most rewarding concerts the band have done, working with the members of South Asian Arts and Bradford Music Service Youth Band. On a Saturday morning at the end of a very wet and cold November we performed at Bates Mill as part of the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival. Shri and Ben arranged some of the movements from Just a Vibration to work with the young players from the youth band and Jasdeep had created parts for a cornucopia of instruments which we had never seen or heard before.

In front of a packed audience of proud parents and friends the much enlarged group entertained the crowd (both seated and standing as space was at a premium by the end) for just over an hour. The response was so good that an encore had to be given before we could all leave the stage.

To get some idea of what the whole show looked like please watch the video below (edited by Shri and Shirin). It only gives you around ten minutes of the whole set. If you want to hear more you can buy the CD or keep an eye on our diary for when we next work with Shri et al.
