A superb release from YBS and David King of a composer who has long been underestimated by the secular banding world.
Six performances of detail and warmth, but more crucially of understanding and expression gives the listener 72 minutes of poetic lyricism. The major ‘test pieces’ are revealed in their glory – much more satisfying than the trend of technical tour de forces that are now so prominent, whilst the smaller works are gems of intuitive beauty.
This has been long overdue, but it has been well worth the wait.

For too long the tenor horn has been a sadly neglected solo instrument within the brass band, but with this release from YBS and their superbly talented horn soloist Sheona White, that time has now thankfully passed.
13 tracks give a wide variety and well-chosen choice of repertoire, and showcase a player who has complete mastery over her instrument. Beautiful full rounded tone, stunning technique and a lovely sense of musicianship, all the pieces are given top class performances by Sheona White that underlines her reputation as perhaps the leading tenor horn player of her generation.
YBS give sympathetic accompaniment and the solo voice is clearly heard throughout both the quicker repertoire and the thickly scored slower pieces. A welcome release and a delightful player to listen to.

Windows of the World£10.00A very popular CD of concert music featuring the brilliant "Windows of the World".

The main offering of this CD is “Windows of the World” – a musical montage that takes the listener from the highlands of Scotland to New York, through rural France to the depths of the Amazonian Rainforest. It’s an incredible musical journey made all the more amazing by some wonderful playing of some wonderful compositions and arrangements.
Howard Snell, Kenneth Downie, Goff Richards and Andy Duncan all provide first-rate pieces that are superbly performed by both the ensemble and soloists.
It’s the Peter Graham “Windows” that are the delight though – a new and startling composition that leads the brass band into unknown yet highly enjoyable musical terrain. Led with impressive direction by David King, it’s a CD that demands playing.
